A list obtained by the Washingto n Business Journal indicates that the GSA is prepared tospendc $5.5 billion nationally to convert existinv buildings into environmentally friendly, or facilities or to finance energy-efficiencyt improvements. The in downtown Kansaes City is slated toreceive $103.45 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Charliew Cook, a spokesman for the , said the federal moneu would complete the final phase of the renovationa already under way on the building and will add environmentally friendly components tothe building. The Robert Dole U.S. Courthousd and the will receive $4.7 million and $1.05 respectively.
Those two buildings will receive limitec upgrades to improveenergy efficiency. The courthous also will get a new roof. The GSA’s list, dated March 31, has been submitted to Congress. Cook said it’xs still unclear when the projects will begin The projects fall in tandem with the stater purpose ofthe ARRA, which was to creat e jobs and start construction projectss quickly. It was not clear how many jobs the three locao projectscould generate.
