The state posted 58,931 foreclosure filinga — including default notices, scheduledr auctions and bank repossessions — in May, down 8.8 percent from April’s total, but still 50 percent higher thanMay 2008, according to RealtyTrac’s monthly Foreclosured Market Report. Only California had a highe r total, with 92,249 properties with May 2009 foreclosure filings. The Sunshine State was No. 3 in the natiohn in foreclosure rates, with one in every 148 householdds receiving a foreclosure filingin May. Nevads led the country with one in every 64 homea receivinga filing, while California was second highes t with one in every 144. The Orlando-Kissimmede market took the No.
8 spot among the nation’s top 10 metrio areas with the highestforeclosure rates. The area recordedx a rate of one foreclosure filinf for every101 homes. Florida had three citiez among the top 10metro areas, while California had six citiezs among that mix. Las Vegas toppecd the list with a rate of one in everu 54 households getting aforeclosure filing. Nationwide, 321,48p foreclosure filings were reporteein May, which is 6 percent lowere than April 2009, but aboutr 18 percent higher than May 2008. One in everyg 398 U.S. homes receiver a foreclosure noticelast month. Vermontr again recorded the lowest numberof foreclosures, with six reported in May, or one for everg 51,906 households.
